This One Thing Can Protect Your Vacation From Hurricane Risk

When it comes to summer vacations, there’s a lot within your control. You can shop for the best prices on flights and accommodations. You can choose whether to camp, glamp, stay in hostels or relax in luxury resorts. You can pack light or bring everything but the kitchen sink. You can travel alone, with a companion, or be part of a tour group. The list is virtually infinite.

One thing you can’t control though is the weather, and one weather phenomenon that can really wreak havoc on travel is hurricanes. Hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30. This season is predicted to be a busy one due to an ongoing La Niña and above-average Atlantic temperatures.

So, what happens if a hurricane strikes your vacation destination? What if you are required to do an emergency evacuation? What if the hurricane strikes shortly before your arrival and your destination has been closed to vacationers?

Unfortunately, these things happen. While you can’t stop hurricanes from potentially ruining your vacation plans, you can protect against the financial risk associated with them. One way to do this is by purchasing travel insurance coverage. Dan Drennen, Director of Sales and Marketing at Travel Insurance Center® has some recommendations when it comes to purchasing coverage and protecting your travel investment from hurricane risk.

Drennen says, “It’s always a good idea to cover your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs, especially during hurricane season. If you have valid trip cancellation/interruption coverage which was purchased prior to a storm being named, then you can rest easy knowing that if a hurricane does ruin your trip, it won’t destroy your bank account. Plus, having that coverage will help ensure your safety during a potentially dangerous situation.”

Unless you’re among the few that really knows the ins and outs of travel insurance, Dan recommends working with the Travel Insurance Experts at Travel Insurance Center. That way, you can be confident you’re buying the right type of insurance, in the right amount, for your specific needs.
